The Muppets take me back in time....

This past weekend we ventured out for the kids' FIRST movie!  We took them to see 'The Muppets'...wow did that bring me back to my childhood.  Dad and I really enjoyed the movie...it certainly made me miss the 'simpler times' when it came to children's entertainment.

Sophia and Henry were great!  The theater had little booster seats, along with little drinks and little popcorns...perfect for our little people :)

Sophia enjoyed her first movie experience but I am not so sure she loved the movie...she seemed to like the Muppets but I think the story line was probably a bit confusing.  I feel that to really appreciate this movie, you would have needed to know the history of the Muppets from back in the day...  As for Henry, we were a little worried about him because he doesn't love to sit in front of the tv for too long so we weren't sure how he would manage a movie.  At his age I am sure he absolutely did not understand the story line but I also don't think he cared. He was just as good as big sis!

A NYC Thanksgiving to remember...

The kids first trip to NYC and we went for Thanksgiving...to see Cecil's family, to have fun and to have more fun.  We did all of that but I must say that it also rained and then rained some more.  Having said that, we had a fabulous trip!

The kids had so many firsts...first trip to The Benjamin, first ride on the subway (oh the cute little mousie!), first ride in a cab, first lunch at Melons, first trip to Rockefeller Center (unfortunately the tree was covered in scaffolding), first trip to see the balloons being blown up the night before the big parade, and the first trip to Aunt Michele's.  And those were only a few of 'the firsts'!

Sunday fun...

A fun bike ride this afternoon...I never thought I would see the day (at least any time soon) where we would all be able to saddle up on our bikes and ride together as a family but here we are!  I walked while Dad, Henry and Sophia were on their bikes and I was running to catch up most of the time.  I think we can now hit the streets!

I spy...

What are we looking at you ask?  Neighbors down the street are rehabbing their new house at the moment, and no one is living there I might add.  We saw a cement mixer pass the house and followed it down the alley to the neighbor's house.  We climbed the fence and watched as they sent cement down to the recently dug out basement.  Fun fun!

After this little fun adventure we headed out to the Botanic Gardens with our lunches packed.  The kids have been asking to go, it has been too long.  It is just as beautiful in the fall as it is in the summer.

Forts and things...

I remember playing in/with forts back in the day...but I remember being older than Sophia.  I think.  In a surprise turn of events, Sophia wanted to make a 'pillow fort'...and that she did.  She has been sleeping in her fort for the past several hours.  Even after she woke up from a dream crying...she snuggled right back into that fort of hers...with Frederick keeping a watchful eye of course...

Such a fun age I see evolving...our little girl is exploring so much more...she is watching...she is learning.  Of course she has been all along but now it seems as though there is more of an intent to learn.  I see and hear her trying so hard to understand letters and their sounds...she is trying so hard to draw something more than a line or a circle...she WANTS to draw 'something'.  And she is...and she is so proud.  I love it...  This pumpkin is one of the first 'things' that we have seen Sophia draw...I have countless post-it notes of these little pumpkins that are so cute.  But, the best part is seeing her face light up when she knows she drew something that she intended to draw :)

This is a bit 'off topic' but so cute I had to keep record...we are throwing Cecil's 40th birthday bash tomorrow night here at our house.  I was explaining this to Sophia and Henry and she asked if the party was going to be outside. I explained that, no, it was going to be inside due to the weather, etc.  She said, "...well Mooooom, if it is inside than we will be upstairs awake because everyone will be downstairs yelling, 'Hooray!!  Hooray!!'  Well Boph, we will see...we will see...

Halloween is here!

Halloween finally came last week.  Following of course...31 days of a house full of decorations (which I might add that I LOVE but 31 days is a bit long), many o' discussions about what to where, bribing Sophia (yes, I know I am not supposed to bribe our children) NOT to wear the same costume as her good friend, weighing the pros and cons with Henry about whether to be a UPS man or Postal worker...  And finally the day came, and it was a whirlwind I might add :)

After a complete meltdown right before we left the house for trick or treating...we all gathered our wits and senses about us, we had a fabulous time!
Belle and the UPS Guy off and running!

Our first stop was to Jen, Dick and Magoo's...but we forgot a treat for Magoo!

We have NEVER seen Sophia be so direct!  She said 'trick or treat' at every house AND looked at them in the eye...followed by 'thank you!'

I only post this because Cecil and I now want a half door... :)  So cool...

Our Halloween beauties...
