Merry Merry Christmas!!

What a merry merry Christmas!  Sophia and Henry had such a fun filled morning...going through their stuffed stockings, opening endless gifts, eating Duffeyrolls (yum!), and eating a fabulous breakfast of homemade waffles, bacon and for me...grits!

The top gifts this year seemed to be baby doll, Rapunzel, Ariel costume and a Belle doll for Sophia...
For Henry his favorites were his crane, construction costume and his ambulance.

Later in the afternoon we rushed to the airport to fly to Lake Forest for a Christmas visit with Heidi and Poppy.  More and more presents and more and more food!  So much fun.
We feel blessed to have such a wonderful family and merry merry Christmas!
Twas the night before Christmas...

A delicious Christmas dinner!

Just another day at the salon ;)

Lunch at the Lantern

What a treat for me!  I sat solo the entire flight...thank you!  I was even able to sleep :)

And to all a good night...

Christmas Eve...

Christmas is almost here!  The buz is all around and the kiddies are extremely excited.  I made the traditional (Ogden tradition I must add) soup for Christmas Eve...only one selection in our house and that was chicken barley.  Christmas Eve lunch at the Cricket (delicious), followed by the tradition of Dad making cookies with the kids for Santa Claus.  Finally, we were off to church for a very nice service (albeit a tad too long at almost 2 hours!).

Merry Christmas Eve!

Santa had chocolate chip and peanut butter chip cookies thanks to Sophia's great idea!

Off to church!

They were able to open one gift each on xmas eve...

Pajamas!

Snowy snowy day...

The prediction was for 3 to 6 inches of snow and we ended up with 12 inches overnight!  It ended up being freezing cold with lots of snow.  A fun day to stay inside for most of the day!  We made MORE pumpkin bread and watched a Christmas movie.  Around 5pm, we decided to venture out into the bitter cold in order to attempt a walk and Sophia's first snow angel.  I must say that I wish Dad hadn't been at work so he could have joined us, he would have gotten into the snow and made one right along side Sophia.  Mom was just a wee bit too cold....

This is an example of 'ski sock' dancing... :)

Blossoms of Light...

After two years in a row, I have fallen in love with the "Blossoms of Light" at the Denver Botanic Gardens and so has the rest of the family...  I have no doubt this will become an annual Christmas tradition.

We were lucky that I didn't know that there was an actual start time for this event so we arrived early, thankfully we did not have to wait in a line that was a block long by the time we left.  The gardens were lit up with the most spectacular lights and the kids went bananas.  As we walked through the Gardens, we all enjoyed some hot apple cider and roasted walnuts...yum!

A vistit with Santa AND...

...the Ice Princess of course.  What do you think? Henry seemed a bit more nervous about meeting with her than with Santa!  Sophia was not interested in visiting with Santa...that has been a consistent feeling for her since her very first visit just prior to her 2nd birthday.  Sophia was a bit envious of Henry though that he was able to visit with a REAL princess ;)

A father son day...

A quick blog post from Dad. Had a great mostly father-son day with Henry. Started off with a nice family workout and some fun for the kids at the CCAC Kids Club, although Henry didn’t seem too happy when I came in to pick them up… L Made up for that with a quick smoothie at the club and then a boys trip to the “orange store” to get some Christmas lights. Something kind of special about taking him through the store, just dad and son… J Hen had a great time riding up front on a flat cart that he demanded that we take so we could go look for forklifts. We did a whole lap of the store and none were anywhere to be found, soooo… drowned our sorrows splitting a quick hot dog (can’t go without getting a quick dog at the door…) Then it was off for lunch at Smash. Very tasty burgers for the boys along with a quick shake for Hammy. I can’t believe he didn’t explode at this point (!) athough we did bring back half for the Bopher who was off at a (nother…) b-day party.

After lunch we Henry reminded me that we were passing a car wash (the coin op kind since dad doesn’t go to the regular wash), and asked if we could go an rinse off the car. So stop we did and came away with a rough rinse that would need to be finished up at home. After we were done and Henry was up from naptime, he helped me rinse out the buckets, roll up the hose and then put the car away. As a special treat, I let him ride on my lap into the garage – seems like a natural behind the wheel!

After that, the whole family went for the kids FIRST try and skating. By the time we found the rink we only had 20 minutes to try and make it work, but once everybody was suited up we managed several laps of the rink. Boph and Hen each had a triangular contraption to hold onto to make sure they didn’t fall (too hard/too often). Things have changed a bit since I learned how to skate holding onto the back of a chair. They both did such a good job, Bophie really seemed to take to it right away (a natural hockey player???) Henry also did great and wound up pushing me for a ways around the rink once he got the hang of it – great especially for being only 2! Mom and dad both think there is a growing competitive streak developing with the kiddies, all good as long as they push each other forward.

As we sat there at the end taking off skates (for a while since Boph didn’t want to leave), we got a few minutes of a hockey game that started after we were done. It took me back to remembering the trip to the rink I took with my father so many years ago, I could vividly remember sitting on the other side of the glass at GPCR, watching the hockey and being asked if I thought I would want to do that? To think that led to 11 wonderful years playing such a great sport. Here is to our kiddies loving hockey!

What a great day it was…
